Baby Animal Slideshow- 2nd Grade

The Second Graders will begin working on a simple slide show about baby animals.  The students will choose 7 animal species and research what the young of that specie is called.  They will include a picture for each slide.  The students will also be introduced to custom animation and slide transition.

Simple Animations using WMM and Paint- 5th & 6th Grade

The Fifth and Sixth Graders are working on simple animations using Paint and Windows Movie Maker.  So far we have a silly looking monster with eyes that move, a fish that swims across the screen, an explosion, and an optical illusion of squares coming at you.

The video below is a short introduction on the creation of a simple animation using Paint and Windows Movie Maker:

The Water Cycle Movie- 3rd & 4th Grade

The Third and Fourth Graders will continue learning about the water cycle in computer lab this week. They will use Paint to create a short movie showing evaporation, condensation and precipitation.  The process will include drawing ten + frames, importing the frames to Windows Movie Maker and setting the timeline.  Here is an example of what their work might look like:

MS Word- 2nd Grade

The Second Graders showed me their Word skills.  They were asked to create a document that includes pictures and words.  They used various formatting and editing tools such as, cut/copy/paste, font, text alignment, and clipart.  The students were given free rein for the topic.

SIRS Issues Reseacher and Discovery Education Streaming- 5th & 6th Grade

Today the Fifth and Sixth Graders were introduced to Discovery Education Streaming.  I created student accounts, which allows each student to have his/her own user and password to access the website.  The students explored the wide variety of resources and played some of the educational games.  I want the students to become very familiar with the site so that I can create assignments using my teacher account.  This will come in extra handy when I have a substitute teacher in the computer lab.  Ask your Fifth or Sixth Grader how to access the site and take a look for yourself!  The username consists of "zsj[grade #][student's 1st name]" and the password is our regularly used code for all of the student accounts.

Last week the Fifth and Sixth Graders were introduced to SIRS Issues Researcher.  This site requires a username and password. Please refer to the Iowa AEA Online pamphlets for this information.  SIRS provides a safe place to research a wide variety of debatable issues such as abortion, cloning, immigration, teenage pregnancy, etc.
